This is a fabulous late 19th century neo-classical bronze inkwell possessing good colour and patina, possibly originating from Italy. A winged putti riding a dolphin forms the lid, below which are horned oxen separated by garlanded putti faces resting on three hooved legs attached to a circular bronze base raised on a slate plinth. The detail is extremely fine with some higher relief areas being slightly worn from handling and thus revealing the golden colour of the metal. This tactile sculpture would appeal to collectors of inkwells or to those looking to decorate a desk or side table with an object of curiosity.

Condition: The inkwell is in very good condition. One of the oxen horns is reduced in length but since it has a flat, smooth and patinated termination it either happened a long time ago or was cast in this way.
