Unusual little early 19th.c. Biedermeier fold over card table c.1820. Stands flat against the wall as an elegant console table (just 26″ wide), or rotate and open the top to make a games table for four with a green baize playing surface for cards. With a dished compartment below the top for cards and tokens etc and a single drawer in the base. Beautifully figured flame mahogany veneers arranged in a symmetrical pattern, with a crossbanded edge and inlaid ebony stringing. Shaped drawer front and apron. Raised on gracefully curving cabriole legs joined with a turned stretcher and retaining the original neat little brass castors. With a tiny makers stamp (Carré Avlles) on the top of the drawer front. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. Original lock and escutcheon, key supplied.
