19thc Prints Tamworth Castle & Malmesbury Abbey

PAIR 19THC PRINTS OF TAMWORTH CASTLE & MALMESBURY ABBEY BY J.M.W.TURNER
A fine pair of 19thc coloured prints of (1)Tamworth Castle & (2)Malmesbury Abbey after the original watercolours by J.M.W.Turner and presented in decorately carved mahogany frames preserved under glass.
TAMWORTH CASTLE
Tamworth Castle, a Grade I listed building,[1] is a Norman castle, located next to the River Tame, in the town of Tamworth in Staffordshire, England.
Overlooking the River Tame, the site has been fortified since Anglo-Saxon times, when Æthelflæd, the Mercian Queen, built a burh to defend against Danes (Vikings) it served as a residence of the Mercian kings. Rebuilt and enlarged by the Normans, it is today one of the best preserved Norman motte-and-bailey castles in England.
The Castle has the second largest motte in England, after that at Windsor Castle
MALMESBURY ABBEY
Malmesbury in Wiltshire, England, is a religious house dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul. It was one of the few English houses with a continual history from the 7th century through to the Dissolution of the Monasteries
ABOUT THE ARTIST
JOSEPH MALLARD WILLIAM TURNER RA (baptised 14 May 1775–Died 19 December 1851) was an English Romanticist landscape painter. Turner was considered a controversial figure in his day, but is now regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting.[1]
Although renowned for his oil paintings, Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. He is commonly known as "the painter of light"[2] and his work is regarded as a Romantic preface to Impressionism.
