2 x Uranium Glass Bull's Eye Bowls, T. Webb, 1930s

Here we have a stylish pair of Art Deco Uranium or Vaseline Glass Bowls from the 1930s. The bowls are in the Bull's Eye pattern, which was introduced in 1933. They were made in a variety of colours into the 1950s but the Uranium glass ones were only produced in the 1930s. The bowls are perfect for a delicious ice cream sundae!
Uranium glass, also called Vaseline glass when it is yellow in colour, contains a very small amount of Uranium Oxide added to the molten glass. This is perfectly safe but does mean that the glass fluoresces bright green when under ultra violet light.
The bowls are made in Stourbridge in the West Midlands by famous glass makers Thomas Webb. Thomas Webb began his career in 1829 and by 1859 he had been joined by his two sons to form Thomas Webb & Sons. They were always innovative and eager to represent the changing design movements of the 19th & 20th centuries. In 1933 they launched the Gay Glass range which included Bull's Eye, Venetian Ripple and Water Lily patterns. The factory finally closed in 1990.
Condition is very good with no chips or cracks and just a couple of bubbles which is inevitable in hand blown glass plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 80 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each bowl is 12.9cm / 5ins in diameter across the top rim and stands 8.7cm / 3.4ins high. The pair together weigh in at 667g / 23.5oz.
The underside of one bowl is etched with the manufacturer's mark of Webb for Thomas Webb along with Made In England.
Shipping in the UK is £8 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
