Description:
Here is a good quality antique English late transitional Regency / William IV mahogany four-poster bed, which will fit a standard 4ft 6” wide mattress, circa 1830, in good condition.
The bed incorporates a protruding moulded cornice, incorporating an upholstered roof (if you wanted the roof upholstering in your own fabric - please enquire for a quote), raised upon four tapering fluted posts decorated with acanthus leaves at the base of the posts. The arched moulded headboard displays good colour and patination. The bed frame is decorated with cock-beaded panels to the side rails and footboard. The bed is raised on sturdy square legs, with block feet to the rear (which incorporate castors) and footboard, which terminate on bun feet. Shaped bolt cover panels hide the bolt cover holes at the footboard. The side and foot rails, which are bare wood, were designed to have a valance attached. A valance can be fitted – please enquire for a quote. The superstructure lends itself to being dressed with romantic fabric drapes.
Retaining the original polish and patination, the bed boasts mellow mahogany colour, with a mid-satin French polish finish.
This bed would look stunning in either a contemporary or traditional setting. It dismantles for easy transportation and we can provide luxury quality custom mattresses. The roof dismantles into two sections for access up a stair case. This is a superior quality centrepiece for any bedroom.

Condition Report:
This bed is in good condition, which is commensurate with its age. Some nominal old use marks to the leading edges and polish. There has been some darkening / discolouration to the back left post (the side which faces the wall) - when the bed is against the wall, this cannot be seen. This bed, which retains the original polish and patination, boasts a mellow mahogany colour, with a light French polish finish. It is extremely difficult to replicate this colour and patination with antique furniture that has been re-polished. The bed is constructed of solid mahogany with oak panels. The bed is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
Mattresses:
Because these beds are individually unique and do not always conform to modern mattress dimensions, we also supply a range of customised high-quality mattresses for these beds starting from £400. Our mattresses are constructed of natural materials (silk, wool & cashmere) and are handmade in the UK. The mattresses can have the corners removed so to maximise the mattress fit in the super-structure of bed. The price quoted does not include the mattress. Please enquire for a mattress quote.
Draping Service:
We offer a separate draping service whereby we can dress the bed with any fabric of choice. This service can consist of the basic fabric being wrapped around the canopy, to hanging curtains or, providing a dressed solid roof with hung curtains. Apart from the superior style and presence, this four-poster bed had a practical purpose. The bed would have originally been decorated with a light muslin cotton material to prevent the mosquitoes from biting the occupants in bed. The advertised price does not include drapes. Please contact us for a quote.
