A Georgian "Cottage" Longcase by Barber, Droitwich.
A Georgian period small 'cottage' longcase clock. A flat top stepped moulded hood pediment. Side hood columns with wooden capitals. A long trunk door to the well proportioned mahogany and fruitwood case. A brass and silvered dial with cast corner spandrels and silvered chapter ring. A well engraved dial centre with date and seconds signed 'John Barber No. 156 Droitwich'. Blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa. 1790.
John Barber of Droitwich is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working in 1791. It's not common for longcase antique clocks to be numbered which is noted by this maker.
