A superb pair of late Victorian adjustable barber’s chairs. The original time worn patinated finish really set these chairs apart. The rather pleasing wear to the finish where the many customers legs have rubbed over the years, and the wear to the finish on the back where the barber, obviously right-handed, has held the chair as he chatted away to his many customers. The adjustable head rest and reclining back mean the chair can be adjusted to a number of settings. On each the original patent mark is stamped into the brass work. At some point in their life, the original leather, probably worn out, has been replaced but this has been done very well and not that recently. To find a pair of these is very unusual. A similar pair can be seen preserved for posterity in the Clew Heritage Centre in County Mayo, Ireland.
