A mid 17th century Scandinavian candlestick, a rare thing. There is a similar beast in the V and A but there are not many out there. Around the drip there are moulded faces which are said to be cherubs but they don't look very cherubic to me. The entire thing is cast in three pieces and is very heavy with a thread on the top section which screws into the base through the separate drip. Obviously scarce, one sold at auction in Massachusetts for twice this price a little while back.
