A fine Indian pietra dura marble and hardstone box, C 1900

This very pleasing and colourful object is a late 19th century Raj period marble and hardstone pietra dura box.

The box is carved from a solid single piece of hard white marble. It is beautifully hollowed with a finely carved interior and a rebated lift off lid.
The exterior of the box is precisely cut and polished with sharp square edges.
The top and four sides have been cut and inlaid with hardstone pietra dura, flowers, leaves and stems in beautiful coloured specimen stones such as agate, lapis lazuli, Jade, turquoise, malachite, and mother of pearl shell.
The box is in excellent original condition with no damage or loses.
