We are delighted to offer for sale this wonderfully detailed oil on canvas by the Italian artist A.Vescovi, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a coastal scene, with a group of women and children are waiting on the beach for the arrival of a small steam vessel. Two fishermen are preparing to launch a rowing boat, possibly to ferry the passengers out to the vessel.This painting has a really tranquil feel and the figure work is exceptional.

Unfortunately, as all our reference books cover British artists mainly, we have, so far, been unable to discover any biographical information about the artist. However, we do know that he specialised in coastal scenes of a similar nature, all painted on canvases of the same size as this one.

Auction records for prices achieved for work by this artist may be found at artnet.com (13 listings), findartinfo.com (8), arcadja.com (7) and artprice.com (6). It would appear that his work is found more on the Continent and Scandinavia. One of his paintings achieved £1,454 in Denmark in 2005 and £1,037 in Sweden in 2008. There is also a work currently for sale on the internet priced at £625, which is visible if you input his name into google.

The painting is framed in its magnificent original 5 3/4" ornate gilt frame and slip. It is ready to hang.

Condition Very good. There is one small repair to the rear of the canvas which is not visible from the front. There is no craquelure or stretcher marks. The wonderful frame has had some repair over the years and, for this reason, although we do stress that it will be very well packed, we cannot offer any guarantee of its condition after transit.
