Unusual little late 19th.c. ebonised Aesthetic Movement side cabinet c.1880. Just 22½” wide, a single door with bevelled mirror and glazed bottom panel. The inside is fitted with shelves probably originally intended for sheet music but ideal now for filing stationery, letters etc. with plenty of space for A4 paper. With a useful and very pretty pierced gallery around the top to stop things from falling down the back and raised on neat little brass castors. The black ‘Japanned’ finish, carved chrysanthemum flower heads and trellis type gallery are all references to Japanese art and design, a profound influence on the designers of the Aesthetic and Arts & Crafts Movements of this time. Excellent condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. Note the original and unusual brass hinges. Key supplied.
