Aesthetic Period Double-Sided Desk for Restoration

Light / Moderate Restoration Project
A lovely antique Mahogany, double-sided desk, dating to the late 19th century
This piece is imperfect and requires light/moderate restoration but it forms a very beautiful and worthwhile basis from which to begin and has vast potential.
With a large central drawer, flanked by four smaller drawers to either side and the reverse with fielded panel cupboard doors. All sitting on a plinth base.
There is some nicely carved and chamfered detailing around this piece with good attention to detail. The brass drawer pulls are distinctly aesthetic period in look and all of the drawers are fitted with quality 2 lever locks, and branded with an 'H and arrow' cypher.
The overall construction is from solid timbers and mahogany veneer.
This desk is of more modest proportions and because of its design would be ideal positioned free standing / as an island within an interior.
Dimensions -
Approx 76 cms deep x 72.5 cms high x 137 cms wide
Condition -
A very good basis for a light / moderate restoration. The side featuring the drawers is generally in good used antique condition with lovely colour and displays well, as shown. The other side featuring the cupboards has had some exposure of some kind with the varnish 'blowing' and an overall lighter and lack lustre surface quality. This is evident on the top panel too, where the wood boarder around the central scribe area is similarly worn and of different colour and with brittle and flaky varnish. Ideally the piece could be completely refinished so that the piece has a clean and uniform look.....or just the one side could be worked on. There are some knocks and chipping and loss to the veneer in places - all as shown in the photos and commensurate with a desk of this age and use......and the inset scribe top should be replaced, after which it would look splendid. A couple of small shelves for the cupboards similarly need to be cut - easily done.
This could make a most enjoyable and manageable project which will likely result in a highly desirable desk when completed. Email or call for any further information on this item. We give great attention to each and every item we select and offer for sale, priding ourselves on the accuracy of our descriptions and research. We are very happy to provide complete and exacting condition reports (together with further photographs, where necessary) and encourage buyers to request this information prior to purchase.
Accepted payment methods are via paypal, bank transfer, personal cheque or cash.
Viewing of any item in person, prior to purchase, is always welcomed by appointment.
