African Ashanti Ebonised Carved Elephant Stool

A striking ebonised Ashanti carved hardwood stool dating from the early 20th Century. It is of traditional form made from a single block of wood with a crescent shaped seat above a carved elephant standing on a gently curved and stepped base.
This stool was made by the Ashanti Tribe in Ghana, West Africa where the elephant represents the power of the king who traditionally would have been the only person allowed to commission such a stool.
Dimensions: Width 60 x Depth 32 x Height 50 cm
Weight c. 15 kg
Condition: It is in good antique condition. Many of these stools suffer from chips to the seat and this is no exception as some repairs to the corners are just about visible below the finish. More importantly it is completely intact without losses and no damage to the trunk and tusks.
Delivery: These are difficult items to post due to their size and weight. We would recommend hand-delivery by our delivery man at a fee of £60 to most places in England & Wales. Please contact David (07931 370372) with your postcode to confirm the delivery charge.
