After Edwin Landseer The Cavaliers Pets Painting
Very fine antique oil painting after Sir Edwin Landseer's original (now in the Tate, London) known as '
-
The Cavaliers Pets'.
The present composition dates to around the 1890-1900 period and is certainly by a very good English painter of that era. Wonderful depiction of the characters these two King Charles Spaniels carry - with their little eyes peeping to the side, waiting for their masters return.
One leans against the masters plumed hat, whilst spurs lay to the other side.
“The Cavaliers Pets" was a ground breaking work of art when Landseer completed it in 1845.
It is due to it, that the addition of 'cavaliers' to King Charles Spaniels took place! Since 1845, it has reproduced in books, engravings, prints and versions of it painted by other famous artists in their own right.
