Alfred Wallis original painting

A genuine Alfred Wallis painting, with full provenance, is offered for sale through Number Twenty.
Alfred Wallis (1855 - 1942) although a simple Cornish fisherman (and later, rag & bone man) his work has had a huge influence upon British art. He painted what he remembered, what he had seen in days gone by capturing scenes & experiences as a fisherman from memory. He painted with boat paint on scraps of cardboard, saved for him by the local grocer.
His work came into the public eye, simply by chance in 1928, when
Ben Nicholson & Christopher Wood (influential characters in the London art world at the time) passed Alfred’s little home in St Ives, and saw his paintings nailed all over the interior walls.
