Ambete Reliquary Figure Congo African Tribal tribal ethnographic carved %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a fascinating African tribal figure made by the Ambete people of the Congo, Gabon. The Ambete practice ancestor worship and these figures have a cavity in the back where relics of ancestors could be placed. The figure is hand carved in solid wood, is painted white and has a small grass skirt. It measures 26cms high.
