American Federal Mahogany & Satinwood Tea Table

An important Mahogany and Satinwood tea table attributed to John and Thomas Seymour of Boston. The table has a shaped fold over top with lobed front corners and with an inlaid edge, on a single gate support. It has an inlaid frieze and stands on fluted ribbed and leaf carved tapering legs. It carries 2 inscribed paper labels and measures 78cm high x 91cm wide x 45cm deep.
The father and son cabinetmakers, John and Thomas Seymour, emigrated from England to Maine in 1785 and settled in Boston in 1794.
Provenance: The labels to the underside of the table read "Table belonging to Mrs Paul Wentworth (Lydia Coggswell) purchased by Mr & Mrs Wentworth about 1814 paternal grandparents of Mrs Roxana A Wentworth Bowen". The second label reads "Paul Wentworth and Lydia Coggswell. Wedding antique furniture March 1814. Given me by my Aunt Mary R.A.W.B. Passed from Mrs Roxana Atwater Wentworth Bowen (1854-1935) to her daughter Roxana Wentworth Bowen. All items are sold with a 14 day money back guarantee.
