An American Illinois steel railway open-face screw back pocket watch, made in the USA in circa 1923.
Dial: The white enamel dial has thick black Arabic numerals with outer minute divisions. The dial has blued hands and a subsidiary second’s dial at the six. The dial is signed in the upper centre: “Illinois.”
Movement: The anchor lever movement has 19 jewels with a swan regulator. The movement is signed: “Bunn, Illinois Watch Co, Springfield, 19 Jewels, Adjusted Temp and Five Positions” and numbered: 3564723. As this pocket watch has a very high movement and is fully screwed, a watchmaker can make this pocket watch work with full accuracy! This watch has just come back from the watchmaker. The movement is in great working condition however, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of an antique pocket watch.
Case: The watch lies in a gold-coloured steel open-face case with a screw case front and the back with a smooth finish. The inner side of the case is signed: “Star Watch Case Company 10 kt gold filled” and numbered: 1167703.
Diameter: 50 mm - Weight: 91.2 g
Signed: Illinois - Made in USA – c1923
Please note: to set the time of the watch you need to open the front screw back case and pull out the lever at the one/two and turn the winder to set the correct time. This method was done specially for the guards travelling on a train for the safety of the people, so that they could keep the exact time. Never pull on the winding as this can break the watch.
