Bunn Special Pocket Watch - USA 1923
This is an American Illinois steel railway open-face pocket watch, made in the USA in 1923. This watch has just come back from my watchmaker and is in great working condition - it would make a perfect collector’s addition!
Dial: The white enamel dial has thick black Arabic numerals with outer minute divisions. The dial has blued hands and a subsidiary second’s dial at the six. The dial is signed in the upper centre: “Illinois”.
Movement: The anchor lever movement has 21 jewels with a swan regulator. The movement is signed: “Bunn Special, Illinois Watch Co, Springfield, 21 Jewels, Adjusted Temp and Six Positions” and numbered 4640794. As this pocket watch has a very high calibre movement and is fully screwed, a watchmaker can make this pocket watch work with full accuracy!
Case: The watch lies in a steel open-face case with a screw case front and a smooth finish back. The inner side of the case is signed: “Bunn Special Model 14K Gold-filled Wadsworth Quality Pat’s Pend’g” and numbered 7206133.
Diameter: 52mm - Weight: 98.1g
Signed: Illinois - Made in USA - 1923
Please note: to set the time of the watch you need to open the front screw back case, pull out the lever at the one/two and turn the winder to set the correct time. This method used by the guards travelling on a train so that they could keep the exact time for the safety of the people travelling. Never pull on the winder as this can break the watch.
