An Early 17th Century Refectory Table

An early 17th century English refectory table constructed from oak and having a four plank top with cleated ends. The base has a simple frieze with silhouette type spandrels at each end and mirrored design to the centre.
The legs are finely turned and are joined by peripheral stretchers. The table has had some restorations to the plank top and a iron brace to the underside of one stretcher. The table has sustained some worm damage throughout its life, originally the table would have been 14ft long but was sawn in half probably sometime in the 18th century due to weight as it is a very heavy and robust table.
The top has some slight undulations due to ware and movement of the timbers which is to be expected with its age.
Overall the table is in excellent condition and very sturdy.
Provenance - Acquired from Queens court farm, Ospringe, Faversham, Kent.
Queens court farm is an early 15th Century timber framed manor house, in which this table was probably made for during the 17th century.
