An Early George II Oak cased 30 Hour Longcase

William Hawkins (1703-1775), Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk
The hood with a stepped arched pediment surmounted by pineapple finials and with Corinthian columns, the trunk with a lip-moulded door, rectangular base and plinth, the signed eleven-inch square brass dial with Roman chapter ring, matted centre and urn centred spandrels, The door and side viewing window glazed in well bevelled glass
The pillared movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel strike is very much of the design of a Lantern antique clock with "side by side" strike and going trains. The well made and beautifully scrolled levers are a clear sign of a clockmaker who knew what he was doing. The large anchor escapewheel with small toothform has the corresponding pallet arbour reaching through from the top of the plate on two steel bridges. 229cm high
William Hawkins was the son of the renowned clockmaker, Mark Hawkins, of Bury St. Edmunds With over twenty years experience in restoring and conserving clocks and working on some of the finest and complicated clocks for a select group of the best antique clock dealers in the country.
As well as this, Overton Clocks has now decided to offer our customers the opportunity to purchase fine antique clocks that have been personally selected for their unique or special features. Each clock has been expertly restored to the highest of standards by myself. Overton clocks ensures peace of mind in your investment, by personally offering three years warranty on all of our timepieces.
I am a master clockmaker, a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and a member of the British watch and clockmakers guild. Overton Clocks is a traditional clock shop based in the heart of Chesterfield on two floors hosting a showroom and in-house fully equipped workshop.
