An Extravagant Regency Rosewood Console
An extravagant Regency rosewood console. Standing on a plinth base, with carved "egg and dart" molding and above are bold carved scroll supports with original gilding and a mirrored back which is also original. The console is finished with a highly decorative Sarrancolin Ilhet marble top. 890mm high, 670mm wide and 430mm deep. English. Circa 1825.

Sarrancolin Ilhet marble is extracted in the village of Sarrancolin, in the Hautes-Pyrénées department. The quarries were exploited extensively under the reign of Louis XIV, and from 1692 they were considered “royal quarries”. W J Gravener Antiques is a family owned business, started in 1963 by William who was joined by son, Mark in 1981 and continues today with the same ethos of dealing in fine quality English and Continental furniture, mirrors and decorative objects, from the 18th & 19th centuries. Now under the stewardship of Mark and his wife, Louise, we take pride in maintaining the high standards which William set more than 50 years ago.
