Circa 1890, an unusual and rare late 19th century ‘Hour Glass’ shaped mahogany partner’s desk, the shaped top with insert black and gold tooled hide, the oval pedestals have four bow fronted drawers each and a single drawer over the kneehole, they are mahogany lined, have figured mahogany fronts with chequered inlays and gilt brass drop handles, the opposite side of the desk has two full height bow hinged doors, with a single shelf, resting on eight tapering legs, with box wood line inlay and brass cups and castors. The pedestals have figured mahogany sides, decorated with chequered bands of inlay. The design of the desk resembles one found in ‘The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker’s Directory by Thomas Chippendale, a library table No: LXXX’.
