An unusual 17th century English armchair circa 1680.
The chair having a rebated and moulded slat back housing a central fielded panel. Above is a highly decorative crest rail depicting a pair of birds flanking a central stylised flower and a further two flower heads either side of the birds and love hearts below.
The crest rail is supported by a pair of scrolled spandrels, the arms supported by thick baluster turnings and below is joined by peripheral stretchers , with the front central stretcher turned.
This is a superb chair with fantastic colour and patination and in excellent condition for its age.
