An excellent quality brass-cased aneroid barometer by Charles Wastell Dixey of 3 New Bond street – Numbered. 4275 - in a fine quality birdseye maple and rosewood strung display case.
The 5 inch diameter aneriod barometer with silvered and engraved register with a curved mercury Farenheit thermometer to the lower section.
Beautiful quality engine turned decorated bezel.
Engraved to the rear “C.W. Dixey and Son. Opticians to the Queen. 3 New Bond Street.”
Blued steel hand and brass set hand.
The lockable birdseye maple case with sloping front and glazed aperture, original velvet lined fitted interior with fine quality original hinges, lock and ivorine plaque with retailers details.
Charles Wastell Dixey - The most eminent of the Dixey dynasty of optician-instrument-makers, who worked primarily from headquarters at 3 New Bond St., London from 1777-1914. He held numerous royal warrants, including that of Queen Victoria.
In fine original condition, in full working order.
