Anne Cathcart 1946-2011 Watercolour Irises

This is a superbly executed work in incredible detail by the artist, illustrator and etcher, Anne Cathcart, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a clump of purple and white bearded irises, with other foliage in the background. It must have taken the artist many hours to complete.
Anne Cathcart 1946-2011, was initially a children's book illustrator, but her career progressed to include etchings, woodblock engraving of birds and animals, and watercolours of flowers, townscapes and landscapes. She studied at Brighton College of Art and then St. Martin's School of Art and Design in London.
After her sad death in 2011, here was a retrospective exhibition celebrating her work and career as an artist at the Hop Gallery in Lewes, E. Sussex in February of 2013.
She illustrated a limited edition book, edited by Michael Harrison entitled 'A Handful of Hares' and she published a book entitled 'Avocet to Zander, an English Countryside Alphabet', also a limited edition book, illustrated with her black and white wood engravings.
The painting has been newly double mounted in two-tone acid-free mounboard to complement and is framed in a 1 3/8" mottled gilt frame with soft green painted line.
Image size: 19 3/4" x 12 5/8" - 50.15cm x 32cm
Frame size: 30" x 20 3/8" - 76.2cm x 51.75cm
Medium: Watercolours on paper
Condition: Very good. The mounts are new and the frame is in good condition.
