This is a charming 19th century hardwood Zanzibar chest dating from around 1860. The solid chest has a lovely colour and good antique patination, as well as a beautifully studded design and brass and steel strapwork. The chest has its original decorative copper hasp, carrying handles and hinges. Inside the original lidded candlebox is intact and this has a sliding bottom panel which reveals a secret compartment below. This solid chest is in good sound order and is a really characterful period piece.
The chest measures 95cm long 40cm deep by 40cm high.
