A rare late 19th century Black Forest carved walnut figure of a gnome

This jolly little chap is very pleasing. He is beautifully hand carved in walnut and was made at the end of the 19th century in the Black Forest region of Germany or Switzerland. He is out walking with a stick in one hand and he has reached the top of a small mound and is happily waving to somebody he has recognised. His very detailed face shows great character with a large full beard and a twinkle in his eye he is wearing a tall peaked hat and a simple tunic with leggings tied at the waist. This super little carving is in good condition with a dark polished patination. Circa 1900
