Antique C17th/18th oil painting of St. Francis
PRICE DISCOUNTED FROM £ 600 BECAUSE OF IMMINENT RELOCATION
An early naïve oil on canvas depicting a friar surrounded by various animals in the woods. We believe this saint is St Francis of Assisi.
This might not be the most common iconography of St. Francis – which is the one of St. Francis receiving the stigmata – however various elements, such as his appearance as a young man, with a beard, surrounded by animals, go in favour of St. Francis.
This early picture shows signs of wear and tear commensurate with its age which just add more charm to this piece from the late 1700/1800's
