Antique Cloisonné Enamel Inkwell on Turned Stand Chinese Inkstand Cloisonn %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A highly unusual form inkwell and stand dating to circa 1900 most likely Chinese as opposed to Japanese. The cuboid glass body has been moulded with a substantial spigot to the underside, this then sits in a raised brass socket/socle which in turn is mounted on a circular turned and dished mahogany stand that finishes on three wooden button feet. The cover is a circular copper cap and collar decorated in cloisonné enamel, the emblematic prunus flower being the principal decoration with a rich blue ground and copper detailing. the inside of the cap is finished in turquoise enamel.

The wooden stand deserves comment, it is a thick rounded edge, a raised edge to the inside ring of a saucer centre all beautifully turned and polished to leave a highly attractive and tactile stand.

Size: the stand is 7 1/2 inches diameter and sits 1 inch high
the ink well is (without the cap or spigot) a slightly imperfect cube approx 1 1/2 inches height and width.
Overall height of the cap and collar combined is 1/2 inch the diameter is 1 3/8th inches
The spigot element of the glass is 1/4-inch depth and 1 inch diameter.

Condition: we rate this as very good it has minor losses to the enamel on the lower edge of the collar but overall, the main body of decoration is in great condition. as with all our items we always balance condition with realistic value and pricing.
