Antique English Folding Chess / Backgammon Board
It's been six months since we have found one of these folding games boxes
The antique English folding games box is made from Mahogany and inlaid with Mahogany and Fruitwood tiles, in splendid condition with a good bright patina. The interior Backgammon board is made from gold embossed leather, which is unusual and I haven't had this example with the leather interior before. Another unusual feature is the lock (alas, no key), I haven't seen one of these with a lock before.
Late Victorian in era and dating to around 1890 /1900, English in origin and in excellent condition. The box while folded measures 15 1/4" x 9 1/4" and each tile measures 1 3/4" square.
