Antique English Mahogany Games Compendium


A very handsome fitted games box dating to the late Victorian era, around 1880, made from Mahogany and complete with a working key.
The leather board fits neatly into the interior of the lid and held with two brass pins. The board has three uses Chess & Draughts/Checkers Backgammon Steeple Chase (Horse Racing Game). The board is in almost untouched condition, one of the best I have seen.
Also included is
Boxwood and Ebony Chess set, the four Rooks and Knights all with the Red Crown Staunton stamp Boxwood and Ebony Backgammon Counters / Draughts / Checkers Cribbage Board with Pegs Set of bone and Ebony dominoes Steeple Chase Horses and Fences A turned Boxwood Dice Shaker, Dice, pack of playing cards. This one is rather special as it retains the original games book.
A lovely box in excellent condition, measuring 13 1/4" x 9" x 7". English, c.1880.
