Antique English Oak and Silver Plate Biscuit Box


A truly magnificent biscuit box, an unusual octagonal shape and large size make this one stand out from the crowd.
Made from solid English Oak, the box stands on the original bun feet and is covered in silver plated fittings including a pair of chunky swing handles to the sides.
The front retains the wonderful engraved shield to the front, a wedding gift in 1891, a piece of Victorian history. The hinged lid when opened reveals the original ceramic liner intact.
The underside is where the shield mount is to be found with the makers mark for the well renowned silversmith, Henry Bourne of Birmingham.
Excellent condition measuring 7 1/2" handle to handle x 7" x 6 1/4" tall.
