The watch has an English ¾ plate stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name T Ganter, 21 Chalk Farm Rd, NW. Thaddeus Ganter was born in Baden in Germany in 1845, but by 1881 he had emigrated to the UK, living in St Pancras and Hampstead. He was listed as a watchmaker. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and is hallmarked for Birmingham 1894 with a case maker’s mark for William Ehrhardt. The case is in lovely condition, just one small indentation to the hinged case back and a hint of unevenness, nothing serious at all.
The watch glass is in lovely condition.
The dial is signed with the name of T Ganter, London which suggests he was a retail jeweller as well as a watch manufacturer. The dial has a small patch of short hairlines towards the perimeter of the dial, between 8 and 9, difficult to see with the naked eye. Original pin set blued steel hands.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
