This is a great Original George III / Regency Period Mahogany writing desk c1805-15. It is raised on tapering straight legs with a pair of drawers with great brass handles in the Architectural Revival or Neo-Classical style if you prefer after the man himself Paladio and Paladianism. There is a simple and elegant edge to the top with ebony striging to the top edge and drawers and below the drawers on the legs, marking the death of our greatest Admiral, Lord Nelson. For a short period after the first ever state funeral of a commoner for Lord Nelson ebony stringing became the norm as opposed to boxwood stringing, helping us date this piece with its elegant style very well.
