A delightful fully hallmarked solid gold antique locket which is embellished with the most deeply symbolic motifs. The swallow has been seen as a lucky talisman by many generations of travellers and their families. This rare locket depicts a swallow and butterfly flying high over a finely depicted costal scene. Butterflies have symbolised the soul since the Victorian era.

The other side is embellished with a garland of flowers and another graceful swallow.

This piece was assayed (tested for purity) at Glasgow Assay Office in 1911.

The locket is suspended from an elegant antique hallmarked gold 19 inch necklace. The interior of the locket is fitted with the original frames, both original backings and both clear portrait protectors. The catches and hinges work perfectly. Super condition throughout!
