Antique Gold Portrait Pendant, Mourning, Hairwork

An exceptional early Victorian gold portrait miniature locket / pendant with a hairwork verso.
Rich 15ct yellow gold frame with a fine portrait of a gentleman to one side, he is dressed with a high collared white shirt and black coat, he has grey hair and most interesting for the period he seems to be smiling slightly, he definitely has an air of mystery and mischief to him.
To the verso there is an elaborately worked fine hairwork display, carefully weaved and set to form a spray of flowers with seed pearl decoration.
The portrait and hairwork are both set under slightly convex glass covers and secured with the heavy gold frame, unmarked, tests at approx 15ct.
There has been an additional jump ring added to the top.
Shown in the picture on a contemporary organza necklace for illustration, it is a very heavy and well made piece.
Condition:
Very good overall with signs of age and use, some light surface scratches to the gold frame and glass covers, the glass panels have a very fine gold trim around the edges and this has come away in places though does not detract, there is a small nick to the portrait.
Approx measurements:
3" height with bale / jump ring
2" width
49.30 grams weight
