This is an antique carved side table. A Scottish, oak correspondence desk with Gothic revival taste, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1880.
Impressively carved with a cornucopia of detail and themes
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
Scottish oak presents deep caramel hues with lighter tones to the top
Fine grain interest shows beneath the wax polish finish
Fascinating profile, with carved surfaces in abundance, narrowing to base
Concealed front drawer accentuated with a Green Man masque flanked with egg and dart finish
Striking lion's head masques adorn each canted corner, with hanging rings to drawer side
Ten drop pendant finials sit beneath the lower edge, with shaped brackets creating an apron
Tapering legs beneath prominent turned cups unite the desk with the charming base
Wide trestle feet taking the form of ancient fish continue the Gothic overtones
Stretcher rail running across the centreline unites each side of the base
Further detailing to the base such as leaves and chased patterns catch the eye
This is a striking antique carved side table. Profusely carved to the highest standard, this is a superb example of Scottish Gothic revival taste. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
