Fars province,south west persia. Last quarter of the 19th century. The indigo blue field and six alternating coloured lozenges are littered with stylised animals and birds and of course the pecking chickens,pecking at seeds on the ground. The design is atypical of the arab-jabbareh tribe and is a beautiful example of late 19th century weavings from this group with rich colours and lustrous wool. Even pile throughout with ends secured. 6 foot 1 inches by 4 foot 11 inches. 186cm X 150cm.. All woollen construction with the weft threads dyed light brown. Keenly priced.
