Antique khamseh tribal main carpet. Large rug. 303cm X 164cm. South west persia,khamseh confederacy,last quarter 19th century. A fine virtually full piled khamseh main carpet probably by the arab-jabbareh tribe. Beautiful colours including a yellow and deep turquoise along with some more unusual zoomorphic and tribal motifs within the dark blue/black field. Dominated by three joined central elongated hexagonal medallions and matching spandrels and half medallions. All ends and sides secured,full piled throughout. 9 foot 11 inches by 5 foot 4 inches. 303cm X 164cm. At widest points. All wool pile hand knotted onto wool foundations with as usual with these earlier weavings the wefts dyed terracotta. Another beautiful tribal weaving from country house and eastern interiors who have a comprehensive collection of south west persian tribal rugs particularly from the khamseh & qashqai confederacies.
