Last quarter 19th century. A superb example by settled village arab weavers of the baharlu/ainalu tribes of south west persia,

unusually the field colour is ivory as opposed to the more usual indigo blue and contains seven horizontal rows of the ''mother and child'' botehs as they are referred to for obvious reasons. The botehs also contain within them and in the ivory field smaller ''baby'' boteh motifs symbolising possibly a fertility period in a young weavers life. But for me the many peacocks with fan tails sitting in between the main pattern is one to titillate an interest in these thoroughly charming tribal weavings. This example is in 1st class condition all ends and sides secured. With a good pile throughout and of a larger size. 9 foot by 6 foot. 274cm X 184cm. Item sold. Ofx 395.
