This is an antique lady's writing desk. A French, mahogany and marble roll top bureaux, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1850.
Striking craftsmanship, fine materials and a delightful form enhance this quality desk

Trio of drawers to the upper section, of field panel finish and accessed by brass drop handles
Roll top tambour activated by opening the main drawer, redolent of Riesener's furniture a century earlier
Two-piece folding skiver rotates to rest upon the drawer edge with a brass protective rail
Brass lock escutcheon to fascia in ornate form, between a pair of drop handles — key absent
Dressed in a superb bright green baize, with a working height of 72cm (28.25'') at the middle
Storage provided beneath the upper half of the skiver, ideal for paper documents
Beyond, an enclosed pen tray with a pair of glass ink wells, and above a trio of internal drawers
