This is a beautiful Louis XV style kingwood gilt metal casket, circa 1880. The hinged quarter veneered top is centred by an oval cartouche and encloses a blue plush velvet lined interior. On the exterior, there is a pierced foliate scroll and fruiting vine escutcheon with key and a pierced foliate scroll and cabochon projecting corners and scroll feet. THE Inside is fully lined in blue velvet. The size, design and condition of this casket make it a statement piece that commands the room.
