Antique Mora pocket watch from Louis Brandt

An antique Mora pocket watch, 1910s.
The Mora name was used by Louis Brandt, founder of Omega. One theory is that he used alternative brand names in an effort to get around existing Omega dealer agreements. The watch was made for export to the Scandinavian market and this could be why the name Mora was chosen as it is a small town in the County of Dalarna, in the centre of Sweden.
The Brandt movement is working nicely. There is a serial number on the movement which, if it ties in with Omega serial numbers, dates it to around 1910 which is right for the design of the watch. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover with images of medals won at the Paris Grand Prix trade exhibition of 1900.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 800 silver and there are Swiss hallmarks inside both of the case backs. Originally there would have been a rose gold wash around the bezel and edge of the case back but most of this has rubbed off over the years. There are a couple of indentations to the bezel and some unevenness to the hinged case back.
The watch glass is in good order.
The signed white enamel dial has a faint short hairline at number 12, and a couple of light scratches but barely noticeable to the naked eye. The hour and minute hands are beautifully ornate although one is darker than the other. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
