Antique oak rustic dresser base
This Antique oak rustic dresser base was made circa 1800.
The dresser has 3 drawers all fitted with brass swing handles, turned front legs and then the lovely pot board below the shaped pointed apron frieze.
It was made in a country workshop, not a refined London one. The timber would have been rescued from around a country estate from fallen oaks. Seasoned for a period before being constructed for a farm cottage.
I love the charm of these honest pieces, having none of the frills of the big house but fit for a normal hardworking farmer to proudly place in their home. A dresser would be the centre of the home, quite often they were placed in the sitting room, or in the kitchen (these would of course be the original kitchen cabinet.) loaded with the essential cooking and dining chinaware, easily to be accessed for the daily meals.
There are some repairs to the drawer fronts, as well as splits to the top, this is all part of the rustic country feel and certainly adds to the charm of this piece.
