Antique Omega goliath pocket watch, c1900

Antique Omega goliath pocket watch, c1900.
The name 'goliath' was registered by Omega in 1892 for their giant pocket watches.
The watch has an Omega calibre 30''' 8-day stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch itself measures 76mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is in very nice condition, as is the watch glass.
The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer of the watch, W Thornhill & Co Ltd, 144 New Bond St, London, W. The firm was founded in 1734 but became W Thornhill & Co Ltd in 1895 and they were listed as, 'cutlers, gold and silversmiths, jewellers and manufacturers and dealers in dressing cases, travelling bags etc'. The company was wound up in 1905.
The dial is in very nice condition and has blued steel hands (pin-set), a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. Originally there would have been a small bulb in the cut-out above number 12 but this has been removed over the years. This would have been switched on and off with the pin to the right of the winding stem. The dial is also signed MM&Co Patent. This relates to an 1895 patent for the construction of special plates for use in accumulators such as the one that would have powered this light. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
