Antique Pair Of 17th Century Glass Paintings

A rare pair of 17th-century Italian paintings. Oil on glass artworks depicting a mythological subject, cherubs and satyrs playing in an Arcadian landscape, of remarkable pictorial quality. This is a reverse painting on glass, a highly complex technique popular in the Baroque period. The nude and fleshy cupids are captured in carefree poses in an allegory of bacchanal.
A cherub is on the shoulders of a satyr, others are eating bunches of grapes, and others, wearing vine crowns, recall the figure of Dionysus. The flesh tones are luminous and enameled, with pink and mother-of-pearl hues. The composition's structure is theatrical and decorative, while the landscape, rich in minute detail, creates a surprising depth. Flemish influences are evident, although the works hark back to the Genoese school of the second half of the 17th century.
A refined and hard-to-find pendant light, ideal for prestigious spaces, whether classic or contemporary, and perfect for enhancing a wunderkammer, the so-called cabinet of curiosities. Elegant 19th-century frames in ebonized wood with gilded bronze applications, with some signs of age. Overall, the paintings are in good condition. Interior size: H 26 x W 32.5 cm. As each of our products will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and warranty and photographic documentation. Every item will be packed in a custom-made wooden box. Free shipping in Europe and UK (import and custom duties NOT included). Worldwide shipping at affordable prices, ask us a shipping quote. BUY IN INSTALLMENTS INTEREST FREE.
