Antique pocket watch - Kipling, London, c1720

William Kipling
London, c1720
Gilt & leather pair cases, 55 mm
Verge movement
A good quality early verge, by a fine London maker.
MOVEMENT : Gilded verge movement, signed (Will Kipling) and numbered (621) with pierced and engraved balance cock. Four square Egyptian pillars and large silver regulator disk. Clean, in excellent condition and running well.
DIAL : Later white enamel dial, in excellent condition, with no repairs, and just one tiny hairline from the edge at 9, and a very small chip at the opening catch at 6. Good 18th century steel beetle and poker hands.
This dial is a little later than the movement and case, probably added in the mid 18th century.
INNER CASE : Gilt/brass in very good condition, with no damage or repairs, and only some wear to the gilding on the band, stem and bow. The high dome crystal is in good condition.
OUTER CASE : Gilt/brass with leather covering. The brass is in excellent condition, with just a little wear to the catch button but there is one piece of leather missing on the back near the hinge, and two pieces on the bezel, at the catch and between the hinge and neck. There are a few pins missing, mainly where the leather is damaged.
William Kipling is listed in London between 1705 and 1737. Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
