Antique Silver Half Hunter Pocket Watch, 1901

Antique silver half hunter pocket watch, 1901.
The watch has an English stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name of the original retailer, Jays, 366 Essex Road, London N. Jays is no longer a antique jewellery shop but the antique clock with their name and the date they were established, 1862, remains outside.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is engraved, ‘Ernest Case Powell, 22 Eldon Street, London, EC, 9th June, 1904”. Ernest Powell was born in London around 1884 so this watch would probably have been his 21st birthday present.
The watch measures 53mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for London 1901, with a case maker’s mark for the case maker John Williams, Islington. The case is in lovely condition. The front has blue enamel filled Roman numerals surrounding a small central lens.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.
The dial is signed Jays, London. The dial looks good to the naked eye, if viewed through a jeweller’s loupe, there is a very faint hairline between 3 and 4. Pin-set blued steel hands including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The watch comes in an antique presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.

Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
