Antique silver Tavannes half hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement, identified as a Cyma / Tavannes, which is working nicely. The movement has a patent date of 24 May 1904, this relates to a patent in the name of Sandoz.

Cyma was founded by two brothers, Joseph and Theodore Schwob, in 1862. In 1892 they decided to go into partnership with Frédéric Henri Sandoz, owner of Henri Sandoz et Cie. The Cyma name was officially registered in 1903. Sandoz used the most modern of manufacturing processes and produced very high quality time-pieces, trademarked as Tavannes, Cyma and Cyma Tavannes. Their excellent reputation for quality meant that by 1910, Tavannes / Cyma were one of the largest Swiss watch manufacturers in existence.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a little unevenness.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for London (import mark), 1919 with an importer's mark of JJH believed to be the watch wholesalers Joseph and John Hargreaves. The front of the case has a small central lens surrounded by numbers which originally would have blue enamel infill, over the years quite a lot of this has come out.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

Inside, the acrylic lens is in good condition.

The dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed. Subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes in an antique presentation box.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
